They are now an endangered species on Kangaroo Island They spend 80% of their lives out fishing and come home for a well-deserved break and to bread and raise their young. Kangaroo Island is home to the only known pure strain of Ligurian bee in the world. The bees descended from the Italian province of Liguria, imported in twelve hives in the 1880's and protected from other breeds of bee by the Island's isolation. The honey produced is of outstanding quality and no trip to Kangaroo Island is complete without sampling it.
